Trace
Map bug causality chains to find root causes.
Trace shows you why issues exist. When a bug appears, Trace maps the complete causal chain — which PR introduced it, which ticket requested it, which spec defined it — so you can fix the root cause, not just the symptom.
How to Use Trace
Step 1: Open any Jira issue
Navigate to a bug or any issue you want to investigate.

Step 2: Click the apps button
Click the gear/apps icon below the issue title to see available apps.

Step 3: Select Trace Causality
Click Trace Causality to add the panel to your issue view.
Step 4: View the causality chain
The Trace panel appears on the issue, showing upstream causes and downstream effects.

Building the Chain
Trace works by following issue links. To build useful causality chains:
Link bugs to the PR or commit that introduced them
Link feature tickets to their parent epics
Use "causes" and "is caused by" link types
Link issues to related Confluence specs
The more you link, the more useful Trace becomes.
When No Links Exist
If an issue has no linked causes or effects, Trace displays an empty state. Click Add linked work item on the issue to start building the chain.
